ABOUT ALEXI MITSIOU
My music therapy practice is informed by 15+ years of experience as a support worker in the areas of mental health, learning difficulties, autism, homelessness and addiction. These were formative years during which I learned how to see the person in the context of their life\'s circumstances instead of their diagnosis and/or troubling behaviour and, most importantly, gave me a sense of the socio-political mechanics of othering and marginalisation that so many of our fellow human beings are being subjected to. The concept of affect attunement and the belief that everyone (and everything) is musical are central to my work and the ideas of shared emotional/ physiological states, the inter-relationality of identities and the interplay between perceiving and creating our realities are central to my worldview. I am primarily interested in improvisational, psychodynamic work but I use an integrative, person centred approach with my clients. At the moment I work with children and young people as a free lance music therapist and with vulnerable adults as a support worker.
