About Alexey Serov
I am an R&D and technology leader with 25+ years of experience turning advanced materials and electrochemical technologies into scalable, industry-relevant solutions.I currently serve as Senior R&D Staff Member at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Deputy Director of the U.S. DOE Roll-to-Roll Consortium, where I lead cross-institutional teams developing manufacturing-ready electrodes and electrocatalysts for fuel cells and electrolyzers. My role sits at the intersection of deep science, team leadership, and strategic execution — translating discovery into deployable technology.Across national labs, industry, and startups, I have built and led multidisciplinary teams, managed complex R&D portfolios, and guided technologies through TRL transitions toward pre-pilot and early manufacturing scale. I focus on creating clarity, empowering experts, and making hard technical and strategic decisions when uncertainty is high.My work has resulted in 190+ peer-reviewed publications, 87 issued patents (12 licensed), and multiple technologies adopted by industry. I am motivated by impact at scale — building teams and systems that deliver results beyond the laboratory.
