About Alejandro Erives

My story begins like many others I presume. I was the middle child (#6) of a family of 14. I always knew I wanted to go to the same college as my oldest brother (Caltech) and somehow I made it. I went there expecting to major in theoretical physics and in the end came out as an engineer. I would go on to get my Masters in Mechanical Engineering from California State University Northridge (while selling sporting goods equipment). My Master\'s thesis was on steam ejectors (which I had no idea at the time would be part of my career down the road). I wasn\'t sure if I wanted to go on to study rotor dynamics or propulsion.My big break into this industry was when I fortuitously (thank you, you know who are!) ventured into vacuum pump and compressor sales for Gardner Denver Nash. I learned about applications in countless industries throughout the US, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. One thing that stuck with me, whether I was in a paper mill, sugar mill, power plant, electronics, refining, plastics or geothermal power plant was that the equipment users were hungry for better ways to improve their equipment. As an OEM selling reliable equipment and systems, I was always welcomed into these facilities to help with issues.After few years of travelling I settled down at a little refinery in the midwest and then a chemical plant just outside Chicago. It was here that I was introduced to and then practiced formal reliability engineering concepts.\"Reliability\" is a big business as I quickly learned. From all my years selling reliable equipment, I can\'t say that I understood what being reliable meant. As a maintenance & reliability engineer for a number of years, all of this has changed. After 20 years, I found my purpose in this industry.
