ABOUT ALEX BADEK

aka Basia Alexis BadekWith over 16 years’ practical engineering experience across private construction, local government and private consultancy I have gained extensive experience within the area of Civil Engineering including sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), pavement, external levels, earthworks analysis, hydrology, hydraulics, infrastructure design, water quality systems, water sensitive urban design (WSUD) and flood analysis. I have been involved in a variety of projects ranging from small scale residential and commercial developments to large scale industrial and residential developments, including subdivisions, high rise buildings, natural and man-made systems. I am passionate about sustainability and the environment and strive to add value to every design. From an early age I’ve always enjoyed learning about how things work, from building the strongest bridges in class using paddle pop sticks to digging elaborate tunnels in the backyard (much to the dismay of my avid gardener parents)- learning about infrastructure started at a young age. This has led me to study civil engineering and pursue a career specialising in sustainable drainage. The experiences I’ve gained globally working in Australia and the United Kingdom have further shaped my passion for what I do now. Engineering isn’t just about problem solving or ticking boxes, it’s an opportunity to be innovative and improve on best practice to address the changing challenges in the built environment and natural environment. I am also deeply motivated to support, encourage and pass on my experience to the next generation of engineers and strive towards equality in the workplace.
