ABOUT ALEXANDRA MILLATMAL
Alexandra is a software engineer in love with the world outside of (impacted by, apart from, in spite of) tech. Most recently, Alex worked as a unionized software engineer (TNG-CWA) at The New York Times, where she contributed to rearchitecting the collaborative CMS tools that power much of the publication\'s content. Previously, she helped evolve the bespoke content management system at Newsela, a company focused on fostering literacy by tailoring real-world content to students\' individual reading levels.Alex prides herself on the usefulness and philosophical integrity of her work, more than on working with any singular technology. Since 2016, she\'s worked on a variety of modern web stacks, from an open-source design system in React to a greenfield Rails application to help code schools better track student outcomes. Much of her career in tech has also centered on efforts to improve inclusion and equity within the industry. When she\'s not thinking about expressive programming patterns, Alex thinks about mutual aid, ways to divest from militarized and genocidal technology, poetic forms, and queerness as liberation. She\'s a sometimes-fiction-writer, proud older sister, and steward to two elderly housecats.
