Alexandra Saieh is a senior policy and advocacy professional with a decade of experience in humanitarian and post-conflict recovery contexts. She has a track record of building high-performing advocacy teams and a proven ability to shift government policies and practices utilizing a combination of evidence-based policy work and media engagement. In Iraq, her research and writing on access to civil documentation for Iraqis who fled areas formerly held by ISIS helped shape the narrative around recovery and reintegration post-conflict in central/northern Iraq. She spearheaded efforts to mobilize the diplomatic community around forced/coerced IDP returns and camp closures in the post-ISIS recovery period. Between 20••••17, her writing and advocacy on the Syria crisis helped influence governments towards more long terms solutions for Syrian refugees, including scaling up resettlement and access to work rights. In Libya, she is currently working to highlight the plight of refugees and migrants in urban areas and drive policy targets towards more rights-based approaches towards mixed migration. Her work includes providing advice on displacement issues to high-level decision-makers, developing institutional policy positions for NGOs, managing donor relations for advocacy and fundraising, program strategy development, leading field-based research for advocacy and communications, drafting policy briefs and high profile reports, briefing high-level representatives, lobbying to improve humanitarian assistance and human rights issues, and overseeing strategic media campaigns, leading crisis communications, and the development of communications products. Alexandra regularly provides commentary as an organizational spokesperson to international media outlets on displacement and humanitarian issues in MENA. Her research and advocacy work has appeared in top-tier media outlets such as The Washington Post, The Financial Times, Al-Jazeera, Reuters, CNN, AP, AFP, and others. Thematic areas of expertise include displacement, migration, refugee contexts, and durable solutions; fragile states, humanitarian access negotiations; human rights and international humanitarian law, crisis communication in fragile contexts.
