ABOUT ALEXANDRA BLAYLOCK

I’m currently loving life at Ryder Architecture, working in a client-facing role across multiple sectors, leading on engagement, collaboration, and delivery from early feasibility through to completion. I’ve had the pleasure of working on some fantastic projects across the region and beyond, often within complex, high-profile, and sensitive contexts.Key projects include the delivery of a £20m new-build sixth form college in Bradford, where I worked from bid stage through to completion, and acting as Project Architect for NUCASTLE, a new community sports centre for the Newcastle United Foundation, complete with a rooftop football pitch. I also led the design development of a 5-star Gotham Hotel within the Grade II listed former Fire Station on Pilgrim Street, navigating the challenges of heritage, city-centre constraints, and luxury hospitality. I also led the redevelopment of Worswick Chambers and 93–101 Pilgrim Street, transforming a Grade II listed former auction hall and townhouses into a vibrant leisure destination with an open-air courtyard and restored period features. I also led on the new office developments at Pilgrim Place, completing works along East Pilgrim Street.My healthcare experience includes leading engagement and planning for the new Sunderland Eye Infirmary, working closely with local authority stakeholders and the Riverside Sunderland team to ensure the design integrates harmoniously with surrounding developments. I have also led feasibility and development work for a new Emergency Department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Glasgow.Alongside project delivery, I championed fire design within the office, helping to improve knowledge and understanding of current regulations and legislative changes following Grenfell, which has evolved into a service with Ryder. I’ve also completed the IOSH Managing Safely course.Prior to Ryder, my time at Howarth Litchfield in Durham built on my experience in private residential extensions and new-build homes, alongside feasibility-stage work in primary healthcare, education, student accommodation, university projects, and large-scale residential schemes.Earlier in my career, I worked in high-end residential architecture in London, where the fast pace, demanding clients, and regular site exposure provided invaluable experience.
