ABOUT ALEXANDER JAMES REYNOLDS
My career goals as an educator are focused on allowing every student an opportunity to have both a free and equitable education. I would like to install a growth-mindset practice in my classroom. With a growth-mindset approach, students will walk into my classroom with knowledge from their previous experiences. My lessons will be sustainable, yet challenging to help expand critical thinking. From late August to early June, my students will evolve upon their prior learning and will implicitly become more component critical thinkers. Ultimately, this growth-mindset approach will allow students to be best prepared for their future learning.Another career goal of mine relies heavily on special education and allowing those students the greatest chance to learn. For the majority of my educational journey, I have had an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). When I was in third grade, I was diagnosed with a minor learning problem called Auditory Processing. My parents were told that I do not process information as quickly as my fellow classmates. Some people might call this an obstacle, but I see it as a blessing in disguise. It shaped my character, helping me become a committed student and hard worker. It allowed me to be my own advocate while having compassion for others. I hope to use my story and patience to help students overcome their specific learning disadvantages. Therefore, the main reason why I choose to pursue a career in education was to help those with learning disabilities; as many teachers had done for me during my entire educational journey.I want to be that difference-maker in all of my students’ lives as an elementary (Pre-K-4) or Special Education (Pre-K-12) teacher. My academic and career goals consist of implementing a growth-mindset approach to learning. Furthermore, I also want to set another large focus on individualized and special education. In addition, making an impact in my school’s community is another essential goal of mine. Needless to say, my heart is in education; I am committed to allowing every student an opportunity to succeed and would like to give back as my teachers have helped me get to where I am today.
