About Alex Hauge

I’m a data and analytics leader based in Washington, DC, currently serving as AVP of Data Warehouse & Business Intelligence at Walker & Dunlop. I lead a small but effective team that designs, builds, and maintains the data infrastructure powering billions in loan volume and helping drive meaningful revenue. Along the way, we’ve earned recognition across the company, including a shoutout in a Fitch rating, not by chasing trends, but through steady, strategic execution and deep partnerships with the business.My path to data leadership wasn’t traditional. I started in open-source intelligence as a Risk Analyst, where I tracked global incidents in real time and learned how to communicate clearly under pressure. That evolved into consulting at sa.global, where I honed my technical chops, building custom tabular models, writing SQL and DAX, and delivering Power BI solutions for clients across the world. Today, I work on everything from warehouse architecture to self-service reporting tools, managing engineers, serving as interim DBA, and translating business needs into elegant, scalable systems.I hold an M.S. in Business Analytics from UVA’s Darden School of Business and a B.S. in Conflict Analysis & Resolution from George Mason University, an academic mix that’s made me equally comfortable debugging a tabular model or mediating cross-team confusion.Outside of work, I’m a reader, traveler, hobbyist photographer, and occasional sailor. I believe good analytics starts with asking the right questions and that clean data is a form of kindness.Always open to talking shop about BI, strategy, or the best places to find a great burger.

   Steering the data warehouse and BI efforts for a top-tier commercial real estate finance company, where I translate complex business needs into high-impact data solutions- Drove strategic growth by empowering production teams to identify financing opportunities, directly supporting billions in loan volume and generating millions in revenue- Led a lean, award-winning team, consistently recognized with internal accolades and even a mention in a Fitch rating report for our data warehouse’s contribution to strong performance- Revamped our Self-Service Reporting Tool (SSRT), improving usability and adoption across business units and making it easier for users to help themselves — without calling us first- Bridged gaps between servicing and insurance by integrating new insurance features into our loan servicing platform, ensuring consistency across the data warehouse and SSRT- Enhanced \'Client Navigator\', our internal client intelligence tool, by developing the underlying infrastructure that gives users a full 360° view of client and loan activity- Guided the team through a company-wide RIF, maintaining morale and output through transparency, empathy, and a whole lot of coffee- Brought on a talented DBA, dramatically increasing our team\'s depth and capability — then stepped in as interim DBA myself to keep the engine running without missing a beat- Oversaw our migration to SQL Server 2019, delivering improved replication, performance, and reliability with minimal disruption to stakeholders.
