Alex specialises in international conflict and security primarily focusing on (1) human security in military operations, particularly those of NATO and its member states and (2) UN peacekeeping.He is particularly interested in how to apply a human security approach to NATO’s implementation of the Cross-Cutting Topics (Protection of Civilians (PoC), Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC), Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV), Combating Trafficking in Human Beings (CTHB), Cultural Property Protection (CPP)) at a strategic level and as both a task for the civil-military cooperation branch (CIMIC J9/G9) and whole HQ at the operational and tactical levels.As a leading expert on human security in military operations, he has worked as a Consultant/Contractor at NATO HQ Supreme Allied Commander Transformation and NATO HQ Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, is a member of NATO\'s Research Task Group on Human Security and Military Operations and has acted as a Subject Matter Expert for Navy Command Headquarters, Royal Navy. He has engaged with a wide variety of NATO and UK defence organisations to provide input on the development of human security doctrine and policy.
