Currently on my placement year at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence, I’ve been able to apply my software engineering skills in a real-world setting, gaining experience across both development and simulation-focused projects. The role has strengthened my understanding of the full software lifecycle, agile working, and cross-team collaboration within a large engineering environment.Key Responsibilities and Achievements:Software Development:• Involved in both backend and frontend development, enhancing functionality and user experience for internal software tools.• Gained hands-on experience with technologies including Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS.• Worked independently and within teams to design, implement, and test new features, ensuring quality and maintainability.Simulation & Visualisation:• Contributed to simulation-based projects involving scenario creation and visual presentation for internal demonstrations.• Attended DSEI London and had the chance to see a project I was involved in showcased.Agile & Collaboration:• Participated in agile ceremonies including stand-ups and sprint meetings, sharing updates and collaborating with engineers across disciplines.• Developed strong communication and problem-solving skills through mentoring, feedback, and collaborative reviews.Professional Development:• Gained exposure to large-scale software practices, security awareness, and innovation processes.• Allocated dedicated time for upskilling, exploring new technologies such as C# and modern game engines to support future simulation work.This placement has given me valuable real-world experience, enhancing both my technical capabilities and my ability to work effectively within a professional software engineering environment.
