About Alexander Verhulst
I am a U.S. Navy veteran turned software developer who thrives in high ownership, mission driven environments. During my six years as a Hospital Corpsman, I served in emergency rooms and alongside Marine infantry units, providing critical care in high pressure situations that demanded adaptability, precision, and teamwork.What drew me to technology is the same mindset that made me effective in the military: solving real problems under pressure, adapting quickly to new challenges, and collaborating with people from all backgrounds. I began my software journey while transitioning out of service, completing an immersive training program at Coding Dojo. That led to my first role at a startup where I owned the development of a web application, streamlined engineering workflows, and partnered with product and data teams to drive impact.Since then, I have continued sharpening my skills by earning a B.S. in Software Engineering from WGU and building a solid foundation across the software development lifecycle. I have also achieved my AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, ITIL 4 Foundations, and CompTIA Project+ certifications, and I am actively working toward earning additional AWS professional level certifications. I am especially strong at breaking down complex problems, learning quickly, and delivering maintainable and scalable solutions in ambiguous environments.Today, I am an SDE Apprentice at AWS where I am focused on growing as an engineer and contributing to large scale systems. I believe in staying curious, collaborating with purpose, and continuously raising the bar for myself and my work.I am always open to connecting with others in the tech, veterans, and builder communities.
