ABOUT ALEXANDER KARL
I have a versatile practice in a variety of technology, intellectual property and business transactions, as well as complex commercial and intellectual property litigation. My ability to connect with any client, as well as my hard-working nature, creates a recipe to effectively and efficiently address any and all client needs. I refuse to put forth anything than my best effort which translates into great results. In my transactional practice, I couple my real-world business grasp with exceptional attention to detail to ensure my client’s business needs are continually addressed. My experience allows me to make an immediate impact at any stage in a transaction by identifying business and legal issues; effectively communicating with my clients to translate their needs into written agreements; and negotiating on my client’s behalf. Typical agreements I have handled include software licensing agreements, software-as-a-services agreements, cloud computing, vendor/procurement agreements, non-disclosure agreements, consulting agreements, statements of works, asset purchase agreements, shipping agreements, or other complex business transactions. In addition to handling business transactions, I have extensive experience in trademark and copyright filing and prosecution. My litigation experience comprises a wide breadth of services in which I have passionately advocated for my clients including pre-filing investigations, claim construction and analyzing, drafting cease and desist letters, filing and answering of complaints, motion practice, discovery, and in-court appearances in both state and federal court. I have appeared in litigations involving a wide array of claims including claims of patent infringement, trademark infringement, fraud, deceptive trade practices, and breach of contract, and have handled litigation matters for clients of all sizes from assisting an individual receiving discovery for use in a foreign proceeding under 28 U.S.C. § 1782 to defending a software license audit for a fortune one-hundred company. Prior to joining Chapman Spingola, I earned my Juris Doctor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During my time in law school, I was an editor on the Elder Law Journal and received the CALI award for earning the highest grade in the Community Preservation Clinic, where I fiercely advocated for indigent clients through the residential foreclosure process. Prior to law school, I received my bachelor’s degree in both Economics and Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
