ABOUT ALEXANDER HANS VIJA
I am a physicist and imaging scientist specializing in quantitative #SPECTCT and hybrid emission imaging at Siemens Healthineers. My work bridges clinical needs, mathematical physics, and system design—turning clinical challenges into quantitative imaging solutions that can be tested, validated, and applied in practice.Inventor on 45+ patents, I am passionate about innovation and its processes—from identifying unmet clinical needs and formulating physics-based solutions to guiding implementation, proofing, and deployment. This translational loop between clinic ↔ physics ↔ clinic defines my approach.Early work includes the #Flash3D reconstruction platform and a 2002 patent on CT-based adaptive attenuation correction, while serving as scientific lead for #TruePointSymbia, Siemens’ first integrated SPECT/CT.I later led research for #IQSPECT, establishing the data-is-sacred reconstruction principle—where modeling and correction occur within the iterative process on uncorrected data.Because multi-focal collimation inherently requires a quantitative approach, this formed the basis for #xSPECTQuant,#xSPECTBone, and the #ExtraModalInformation (#EMI) framework. As co-inventor of #EMI, I helped generalize image formation beyond the emission domain.EMI fuses complementary or structural data directly within the forward model. Its first implementation,#xSPECTBone, integrates anatomical information to improve detectability and reproducibility. With #SymbiaIntevo, we launched #xSPECTQuant, anchored by NIST-traceable Calibrated Sensitivity Sources (#CSS) using Co-57 and extended with Se-75 and Sn-113 for higher-energy isotopes Lu-177, I-131).CSS enables multi-site and longitudinal comparability, while #BroadQuant supports local calibration for flexible protocols. In #SymbiaProSpecta, a Listmode-based architecture supports retrospective gating, continuous-rotation cardiac imaging, inter-view inconsistency mitigation (#MCPro), and intra-view data-driven respiratory correction (#rMCPro)—advancing quantitative precision and efficiency. My research focuses on next-generation image formation, AI-assisted and quantum-inspired reconstruction, and ongoing product enhancement to meet evolving theranostic and multimodal needs.I remain committed to modernizing nuclear medicine through standardized, quantitative SPECT that is both scientifically rigorous and clinically meaningful.Recognition: Siemens AG Inventor-of-the-Year (2013)All product and technology names are the property of their respective owners.
