As Head Researcher of the Webby award winning, viral podcast \"Dark History with Bailey Sarian,\" I resurrect untold and forgotten pieces of history for an ultramodern audience. The rigorous interdisciplinary research process captures the most complete version of a story possible. Through candid interviews with subject matter experts from around the world, I strive to ensure a story’s authenticity. Through market research I source stories of the moment and connect them to stories of the past. Our subjects range from healthcare concerns to prejudiced legislation, from political biographies to Hollywood scandals. The episodes premiere to a digital audience of more than 7 million across YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.I am a contributor to Metromode Magazine, Colorado’s LGBTQ+ quarterly. My stories range from interviews with senators to religious leaders, from local artists to entrepreneurs. I have previously contributed to Westword, interviewing independent filmmakers, musicians, performance artists, innovative business owners, and detailing must-attend events for a readership of more than 1.5 million. As the Director of Film Programming and Marketing - Features of the DocuWest Film Festival I lead the film curation team, recruit volunteers, execute community outreach strategies, and organize and moderate Q & As with filmmakers, including Academy and Emmy Award winning documentarians. DocuWest, run by the nonprofit Denver Documentary Society, is the region’s longest running documentary festival.I am a producer of the new feature length documentary “We Turned Up. Don’t Turn Down. This is for Mike Brown.” During this project I assisted award-winning filmmaker Wade Gardner’s investigation into the death of Mike Brown in 2014 and its pivotal role in inspiring the Black Lives Matter movement.Currently I am producing and researching a documentary about the historic Mercury Cafe. Director Kim Greenwell’s debut feature will explore the storied history of the legendary Denver venue, its labor struggles threatening countless artists, and its rebirth as a lesbian bar in a country with few remaining similar venues.
