About Alexander Danilenko

Developed GHG accounting for more than a dozen Bank projects at different stages from PADs to ICRs. The sectors covered: water supply, wastewater collection and treatment, on-site sanitation, PV replacement of electricity grid, solid waste, and district heating. Advising Water GP staff on GHG accounting. Designing and assessing GHG mitigation activities for wastewater sludge incineration, biogas generation from wastewater and utilization of manure. Conducted mass-energy transfer assessment for wastewater sludge-cement co-combustion, energy efficiency assessments of water utilities in Vietnam and similar studies. Provided technical expertise to Bank teams for mainstreaming climate, climate risk screening, GHG accounting, and climate indicators. Authored and published several manuscripts on Climate Change and water sector and water utilities. Prepared and published a Primer for Energy Efficiency of Water Utilities. Prepared a manual for calculating water and wastewater utilities carbon footprint. Another publication China Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Water and Wastewater Utilities initiated large carbon mitigation initiatives in the country. TTL and TFLap accredited. Has more than 25 years’ experience in preparation and implementation of World Bank projects in water supply and sanitation, environment protection and infrastructure development around the World. Carried-out and managed all steps of numerous Bank projects from inception to completion and ICR. Conducted economic, institutional, environmental assessments, including engineering assessments and GHG mitigation accounting, conducted implementation monitoring and post-project engineering and economic evaluation. Conducted economic analyses with GHG accounting, and incremental cost analyses for the World Bank and Global Environmental Facility (GEF) projects. Supported initiation of several GEF projects in virtually all Bank regions. Professional expertise in environmental and institutional aspects of water supply and sanitation, health care, and environmental regulation. TTLed and co-TTLed Bank flagship studies, and projects. Managed junior staff. Experience in budget management and was a window manager for numerous Trust Funds supporting World Bank projects. Representing the World Bank Group at the ISO working group 224. Research and Publications. Authored report Climate Change and Water Utilities: Challenges and Opportunities that has more than downloads and was translated onto Chinese.
