Every fence has more than two sides. Experience in software development allows for deep understanding of how an information system might interact with a consumer and what issues may arise between these two. A consumer can be an end user or an API client or a technology team that uses your SDK in their product. Experience talking with customers, business and technical colleagues is helpful when customer complaints need to be communicated to technical support, product owners or software developers. Customer facing jobs are somewhat familiar to me because as a developer I gathered requirements, took bug reports from customer service, communicated bug reports to customer service and even backfilled customer service on occasion. In 2020 I delivered groceries and assisted boardwalk visitors with questions related to trash, restrooms and concessions.
