About Alexander Berne

I am a Ph.D. candidate at the California Institute of Technology and Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology (FINESST) recipient. I principally use numerical methods (e.g, Finite Element Analysis) to treat problems in Geophysics and Planetary Science. I graduated as from the University of Miami with a B.S.M.E. in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Physics. At Miami, I carried out research to develop vibrating platforms to conduct behavioral tests for neuroscience research. After Miami, I pursued a Masters Degree at Oxford University (in the United Kingdom) in Physics (M.S. with Distinction) in Fall 2020 with a focus on understanding the practical applications of radiative transport in medicine. Since 2022, I have worked as a contractor for the NASA/Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). At JPL, I contribute to a Strategic Research and Development (SR;TD) initiative focused on developing instrumentation and science requirements for deploying sensitive gravimeters and Interferometric Synthetic Apreture Radar (InSAR) systems to ocean worlds in the outer solar system.
