About Alexander Bentley
Howdy! My name is Alexander Bentley, and I am a student researcher at Western Kentucky University (WKU) pursuing a B.S. in Biochemistry with a Certificate in Data Analysis. I plan to graduate in May 2026 and continue to pursue my M.S. in Chemistry. My work focuses on applying chemistry, laboratory science, and data analysis to real problems in health, research, and underserved communities.Since 2022, I have worked as a Research Assistant in Platinum Chemistry under Dr. Kevin Williams at WKU. My research centers on platinum based chelates and their potential anticancer activity. I synthesize organic and inorganic ligands, model compounds using HyperChem, and perform instrumental analysis including NMR, chromatography, fluorescence, and pH and temperature profiling. I also help develop spectral profiles for experimental trials and present this work at scientific conferences/publish in journals.I also serve as a Data Analyst in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities under Dr. Christina Noel at WKU. In this role, I collect and analyze data on healthcare, education, and community support systems for individuals with IDD, especially in underserved areas. My work includes surveys, interviews, focus groups, and digital data collection, with analysis using Tableau, Qualtrics, Excel, Python, R, and SQL.Outside of research, I support community programs through the Kelly Autism Program and serve on several advisory and leadership boards. I also founded Project Lumya, an international autism support initiative that now serves over 400+ students each month and focuses on career readiness, life skills, and assistive program development.Across my career, I have presented research at many local, regional, national, and international scientific conferences, contributed to five publications across chemistry, data science, and IDD research, and helped support grant funded projects exceeding two million dollars. My goal is to continue contributing to research that combines laboratory science, data analysis, and community impact.
