ABOUT ALEXANDER AVTGIS

An enthusiastic advocate, Alex enjoys confronting novel and complex problems — almost as much as he cherishes crafting and facilitating practical and efficient long-term outcomes for business, professional, and personal clients. Armed with a range of experiences across various legal settings, Alex comfortably balances clients’ missions and strategic goals while he tacks toward desired litigation outcomes. He views litigation like the tool that it is: essential, but one among many. He instructs and advises on the statutory, regulatory and policy frameworks that affect his clients while addressing their civil and business litigation woes. Foremost, he listens. Said differently: he strives to understand clients’ values, and relevant public, business, stakeholder, and transnational interests, as much as he desires to navigate legal squalls. In short, Alex provides sound, thoughtful guidance and tactfully articulates tough positions to organizational leadership and tribunals alike. Alex graduated from Indiana University Maurer School of Law in 2017 to earn a J.D./M.P.A. dual degree in conjunction with the Indiana University O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He is forever and thankfully indebted to Wabash College, where he attended undergrad upon receiving the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship from Lake County, Indiana. At Wabash, he studied philosophy and formal logic; learned how to brew dark, flavorful ales; and read Fagles’s translation of The Odyssey. Growing up, Alex called a variety of locations across the country “home”, a foundational experience he credits with fostering an understanding of diverse opinions, perspectives, and beliefs. Along the journey from California to Massachusetts to Florida (There and Back Again!), he engendered a deep love for the greatness of the American Experiment and its people. He subsequently participated in the “We The People” program at Munster High School in Northwest Indiana and worked in law school as a J.D. Affiliate to the Center for Constitutional Democracy at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law — both transformative chapters that anchored an enduring passion, and abiding enthusiasm, for the United States Constitution. More recently, he is grateful to have clerked for a judge at the Indiana Court of Appeals, a storied Indianapolis wine lawyer, and a district judge at the District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. Alex regularly enjoys mentoring future lawyers in annual moot court, mock trial, ethics, and civic competitions.
