ABOUT ALEXA DEL PIANO

With a background of many years as a mediator, and now as a new art teacher; I am dedicated to bringing peace to individuals and their communities through art based learning and conflict resolution. As an educator and artist, I believe in art as therapy and feel it is an important vessel through which emotion is expressed creatively. My educational philosophy is that every student must be known, loved, and inspired. Teachers must be committed to teaching students an honest and inclusive curriculum that encourages them to question, challenge, and shift the status quo. The art curriculum I have written includes contemporary and historical art-that does not shy away from real social justice issues.I have a privilege as an art teacher to engage students creatively and therapeutically through the creation of art. Overall, I believe that all classrooms should adopt values of safety and acceptance.
