ABOUT ALEX LOCK

With over 11 years of dedicated service at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), I have progressed from an Immigration Compliance Assistant to my current role as Head of Immigration Compliance. My journey has been marked by a series of significant roles, including Officer, Manager, Senior Manager, and now, a senior leadership position. My expertise lies in data manipulation, immigration compliance, and leading a team responsible for Student Visa regulation at the university. I have a deep understanding of the Office for Students and Identity Verification Technologies. One of my proudest achievements is the successful implementation of the Right to Study initiative at ARU in 2017, along with swiftly adapting to UKVI changes.I have had the privilege of representing universities in negotiations with UKVI and speaking at various conferences. Additionally, I co-chair several key groups, including the UCISA Immigration Compliance Group, the ICN Midlands Compliance Group, and the University Alliance Compliance Group. My work involves close collaboration with sector bodies and the UKVI, ensuring compliance and advocating for the sector. In the past six months, I have taken on additional responsibilities, assisting in covering aspects of our manager\'s role during her temporary secondment. This experience has provided me with further exposure to senior and director-level decision-making processes.I am proud of my career development at ARU and within the wider sector. I am frequently called upon as a reliable and knowledgeable representative for sector lobbying and representation.
