About Alex Laufer
Alex Laufer is a biologist turned distiller with a passion for local food, spirits, beer and wine. He had a 12 year career in Biotechnology, at companies including Genentech, Geron and Exelixis in the San Francisco Bay Area, before moving to the DC region in 2005 to work at the J. Craig Venter Institute in Rockville, MD and then consult with Harmonic Lab Solutions. As demand from friends and family for his culinary creations grew, he formed Eatological, a catering company focusing on local ingredients. Alex\'s background in production research, lab management and cooking form the backbone of his skills as CEO and Head Distiller at One Eight.
