About Alex King
Recently started a new position as a full-time special education paraprofessional in Livonia Public Schools. I am a proud Xavier University (2013) and AmeriCorps alumnus with extensive experience in political campaigns as well as national service at three nonprofit organizations leading the fight for access to education, disaster services, and fighting hunger in the City of Detroit and its metropolitan area. Ran for Livonia (MI) city council in 2025, finishing 11th in a field of 17 candidates in primary (needed to finish in top 8 to advance). Completed a fourth term of service with AmeriCorps at the American Red Cross in December 2017 in the area of disaster cycle services. Previously I had done two terms of service at United Way of Southeastern Michigan and one at Focus: HOPE. Have raised nearly $30K going door-to-door in Metro Detroit fundraising for Detroit PBS. I have completed 34 hours of training and over 500 hours of volunteering, starting in May 2017, at Crisis Text Line as a crisis counselor. I’m the kind of person you want on your team, as I am results-driven, inclusive, and a team player. Skills: Excellent at social media, raising awareness for social justice causes, fundraising for organizations, elected officials, and candidates for public office, door-to-door canvassing, and volunteer recruitment.
