About Alex Katko

Engineering leader with over 10 years of experience in Engineering Management, Product Development, and RF/Systems/Communications Engineering. I have managed teams up to 70+ FTEs; ODM and JDM partners; standards development; and end-to-end product development engineering.I currently lead the product engineering team at Globalstar. My organization is responsible for the development, delivery, and support for our product portfolio, including retail/consumer products, IoT products, and modules.I recently helmed the engineering and product organization at a startup in the Seattle area. My organization was responsible for definition; architecture; design; integration; verification; and delivery of all our products. Products included cloud software platforms, consumer equipment, and network infrastructure equipment. I have managed teams in hardware, embedded software, cloud software, systems, integration, and configuration, both onsite and remote.I completed my PhD at Duke University in Steve Cummer\'s group, where my broad research interests included metamaterials, periodic electromagnetic structures, nonlinear effects, and microwave devices.Specialties: product development, technology strategy, engineering management, RF engineering, systems engineering, LTE, 5G

1. VP of Product Engineering

   Globalstar

   Nov 2024 — Present

   I run the Product Engineering organization. My team designs, develops, manufactures, and supports all of Globalstar\'s satellite products. This includes module and component products, allowing integrators and VARs to add connectivity to Globalstar\'s satellite network into their products; consumer and retail messaging/tracking devices, sold under the SPOT brand; and industrial IoT products such as asset trackers.We use different development/delivery models for different products. Some products are developed with ODM partners; some are fully developed internally and produced with our EMS partners.My team includes hardware, firmware, mobile app, DevOps, manufacturing, test, FAE, and product systems engineering. We work closely with the Product Management, Marketing, Sales, and Network and Systems teams every day; Globalstar\'s satellite products comprise a mature, proven ecosystem running on our LEO network.
