ABOUT ALEX J. MECHABER

Mission-driven physician executive with over 2 decades of leadership in medical education and licensure assessment. Responsible for strategy, operations, governance, research, and stakeholder engagement within a complex, national organization. Proven record of advancing innovation while advancing operational excellence, financial stewardship, and organizational culture. Expertise in external relations and national stakeholder partnerships, accreditation and regulatory affairs, and culture, talent development, and inclusion. Dr. Alex J. Mechaber serves as Vice President of USMLE at the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME). With over 25 years of experience in medical education, Dr. Mechaber served as professor of medicine, senior associate dean for undergraduate medical education and the Bernard J. Fogel Endowed Chair in Medical Education at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine (19••••20). He continues to serve as professor emeritus. He is a graduate of the University of Miami and received his MD from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, FL. Dr. Mechaber completed his primary care internal medicine residency and chief medical residency at the George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC. He completed a general internal medicine fellowship at the UNC at Chapel Hill School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, NC and completed an executive MBA in health administration and policy at the Miami Herbert Business School. Dr. Mechaber is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Master of the American College of Physicians.
