ABOUT ALEX GILELES-HILLEL
As an Associate Professor at Hebrew University and Director of the Neonatal Pulmonology Service at Hadassah Medical Center, I bring over a decade of expertise in pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine. Clinically, I specialize in prematurity-related respiratory disorders, congenital lung diseases, and pediatric sleep-disordered breathing, with advanced training in polysomnography and pediatric bronchoscopy. At Hadassah, I lead a multidisciplinary team that has implemented innovative oxygen weaning protocols and pediatric sleep diagnostics, significantly reducing hospitalizations and improving outcomes in high-risk infants and children.I also direct a translational research laboratory at the Wohl Institute, where my group explores the systemic effects of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea on metabolic dysfunction, cardiovascular disease, and cancer progression. Using advanced organoid models, we also investigate respiratory diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, and primary ciliary dyskinesia, aiming to accelerate therapeutic discovery. My work has resulted in over 80 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, multiple competitive research grants, and international recognition through invited lectures and collaborations. I serve as an Associate Editor at the SLEEP journal and am actively engaged in mentoring the next generation of physician-scientists.Motivated by a commitment to integrate clinical excellence with groundbreaking research, my mission is to advance pediatric sleep and respiratory care globally, improving the lifelong health trajectories of children.
