About Alex Connor
I am a PhD-trained chemical & biological engineer with 7 first-author publications, 3 U.S. patents, and a proven track record in synthetic biology, biomaterials, metabolic engineering, and protein engineering. My past research has focused on designing novel bacterial systems for sustainable protein and materials production, including pioneering a novel bacterial platform for the conversion of plastic waste into biodegradable materials.I also bring experience as a former McKinsey & Company consultant, where I helped the executive teams of Fortune 100 clients solve their toughest problems related to growth strategy, procurement, profitability, and organizational change. Through McKinsey & Company, I enhanced my business acumen, data analysis skills, communication effectiveness, leadership potential, and ability to work with cross-functional teams (e.g. both business and technical leaders). Beyond my academic and consulting work, I founded a biotechnology startup (Ripely LLC) that gained traction and funding through victories in several state-wide business plan competitions, leading to my recognition as a Top 5 Innovator Under 25 by the Inno Under 25/Albany Business Review. Through building out a team of employees and advisors, as well as developing a prototype product, I honed my aptitude for product development, purpose-driven leadership, and bridging the gap between scientific innovation and commercialization. I\'m passionate about ethical, sustainable biotech and eagerly seeking opportunities in biotech R&D and research engineering where I can combine hands-on laboratory innovation with cross-functional collaboration, and contribute to developing the next generation of biomanufacturing and protein technologies.Let\'s connect if you\'re in synthetic biology, protein engineering, or building the next big thing in biotech—open to chats on opportunities or collaborations!
