ABOUT ALEX CARIGNAN

I am interested in the field of hospital epidemiology, especially in the surveillance and prevention of nosocomial infections. Currently, I am the chairman of the provincial surveillance program of nosocomial bacteremia (SPIN-BACTOT). At the local level, I am responsible for the implementation and monitoring of nosocomial infection surveillance programs, including programs for ventilator-associated pneumonia and surgical site infection cases. My research interests include the control of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea and the prevention of post-prostate biopsy infections.Being an active member of the Quebec Immunization Committee, I am also interested in maintaining the quality of the Quebec immunization program. In addition, I have participated in the development of recommendations and opinions, addressed to the Ministry of Health and Social Services on the optimal use of immunizing agents. Currently, I am involved in the development of epidemiological and evaluative research related to immunization programs that are in place in the province of Quebec. From the clinical point of view, this interest is reflected in my involvement as the head of a vaccination clinic for immunosuppressed patients, which was newly opened at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke.
