ABOUT ALEX CANOVAS
I\'m a conductor, singer, teacher, and arts administrator based in Brooklyn, NY. I have over 15 years of experience working with arts organizations in a variety of capacities.I\'m currently the General & Artistic Director of the Young New Yorkers\' Chorus (YNYC), where I lead a Mixed Ensemble and a Treble Ensemble. I oversee all artistic & administrative functions of YNYC, including the lauded Competition for Young Composers, now in its 20th year.I\'ve previously served as the Director of Music & Choirmaster at St. Paul\'s Episcopal Church (Carroll Gardens), Associate Conductor of Choral Chameleon, and Assistant Conductor & Operations Manager of the Empire City Men\'s Chorus.I\'ve prepared choirs that have performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Rockefeller Center, National Sawdust, and numerous American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) conferences. In 2019 I collaborated with Tina Roth Eisenberg (swissmiss) & Creative Mornings, the world\'s largest face-to-face creative community, to create a volunteer choir for their community members.I serve on the Composition Initatives Committee for ACDA, and also as the Webmaster for the New York chapter of ACDA (NY-ACDA), and recently co-chaired the NY-ACDA summer conference. I am a member of both ACDA and Chorus America. For almost four years I worked at Zocdoc, one of New York\'s first \"unicorn\" start-ups, where I served in numerous roles on the Operations Team. My ultimate role at Zocdoc was Service Operations Team Lead, which saw me serve as supervisor for a service team that spanned three offices in New York, Phoenix, and Pune, India, respectively. I also worked closely to oversee Zocdoc\'s review policy, regularly collaborating with the Engineering and Legal Teams to implement and improve the policy.Teaching is a great passion of mine, and I currently teach voice, conducting, and musicianship in New York City and Brooklyn, where I live with my wife and our beloved cat.
