ABOUT ALEX BURTON

I have been a management consultant and Project/Programme/Portfolio Manager for 25 years. This includes public sector experience with Capita (16 years), and private sector experience with Accenture (5 years), Santander (1 year), and De La Rue (3 years).Programme and portfolio management - I have successfully led people in delivery as a Project Manager, Programme Manager and Engagement Manager on multimillion-pound projects with Capita. At De La Rue I was the Portfolio Manager for a range of technology and research & development projects. I have hands on experience of complex planning and resourcing, risk and issue management, stakeholder management, dependency management, and benefit realisation.Technology development – In various roles I have been responsible for technology developments, from requirements definition, through design, build and test, to implementation. My experiences include rolling out Santander’s online banking solution, the definition and design of tools in support of army recruitment, build and test of tools in support of Defence Fire and Rescue, implementation of user roles and accounts for NHSE, and continuous improvement and maintenance testing of DfE systems.Solutions and strategy – I have worked as the Business Solution Architect and chair of the Design Authority in a long-term role. I have created business cases for projects and programmes. I am particularly skilled in managing benefit identification, enablement and realisation through the lifetime of a project or programme.Methodologies - I am Prince 2 and Managing Successful Programmes qualified, and P3M3 trained. I have hands on experience of agile development. I have been trained in, and contributed to, various project and programme management methodologies, including Accenture’s delivery methodology, Service Birmingham’s Champs 2, and Capita Transformation’s BTC and Evolve methodologies. I have experience using APQP in a manufacturing environment.People management - I have directly managed teams of up to 20 people and had responsibility for resources across larger portfolios of work. I have coached colleagues in their professional development. Since 2020 I have used my role as a 5th XI cricket captain to further develop my leadership and people development skills.Stakeholder engagement - My influencing skills are regularly commended and I am used to interacting directly with the most senior people in any client engagement. Sales - I have project managed sales activities and brought my financial modelling to bear on the bids I have been involved with.
