About Alex Boucher
I am a practicing pediatric and adult classical hematologist who primarily focuses on red cell disorders. I am working on re-thinking and optimizing the ways in which we provide young adult care for those with chronic pediatric/adolescent illnesses, particularly sickle cell disease and thalassemia. I take pride in medical education, particularly in terms of integrating health equity curriculum into standard training. I lead the pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship program and direct the UMN American Society of Hematology-funded classical hematology adult training pathway. My research focuses on optimizing these AYA chronic care clinical outcomes as well as identifying and addressing hidden sources of bias and inequity built into the healthcare system at large.
