ABOUT ALEX BICK
Dr. Bick is the Director of the Division of Genetic Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his MD and PhD training at Harvard Medical School, Internal Medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and post-doctoral training at the Broad Institute. His scientific observations have advanced our understanding of the inherited genetic basis for hematologic malignancy and cardiovascular disease, characterized molecular disease mechanisms and identified both the promise and limitations of translating genomic findings into routine medical practice. He has a particular interest in understanding how the interplay between inherited genetics and acquired mutations contributes to disease. Recently he has developed and deployed algorithms to identify clonal hematopoiesis at scale in millions of human genomes and used these datasets to characterize the causes and consequences of clonal hematopoiesis. His work has been recognized with a NIH Director’s Early Independence Award, a Burroughs Wellcome Foundation Career award, a Pew-Stewart Scholars for Cancer Research, a Forbes 30 under 30 in Healthcare and an ASCI Young Physician Scientist Award. In addition to his research, he maintains an active clinical practice in genomic medicine and sees patients at the Vanderbilt Genomics and Therapeutics clinic.VUMC lab: Scholar:
