I build teams to ensure schools are emotionally safe spaces to learn and thrive. Student agency is cultivated. Teachers are supported. Parents are embraced as partners.Culturally relevant, responsive, and differientiated approaches to learning are expected in all classrooms.My journey as an administrator has been to change culture to reflect what I just stated. Change is difficult, especially with deep rooted cultures. This work is challenging and I continue to serve stakeholders with an open mind and heart. Outside partners, district, city and government personnel have been critical to my success in multiple schools. Diversity makes life more interesting and fun.Under my leadership at Crescent Heights Language Arts and Social Justice Magnet, we are becoming Crescent Heights Social Justice and STEAM Magnet Elementary School. As former principal of La Salle Avenue Elementary School, we became a Spanish Dual Language School as well as a safe space where students could begin to learn and thrive. While at Brentwood Science Magnet Elementary School, I was instrumental in moving the culture in the direction of becoming culturally and linguistically relevant and responsive. My responsibilities have required me to do the following:• create systems and implement instructional initiatives to improve culture and climate• manage school operations and parent education programs• build partnerships with community organizations• use interpersonal communication skills to build rapport• articulate expectations and create SMART goals to achieve desired results• work collaboratively with stakeholders, community members, and school partners• plan, design and implement professional development to meet individual needs
