ABOUT ALESSANDRO SIMEONE
Associate Professor in Intelligent Manufacturing Systems with experience in the following aspects of manufacturing engineering: MANUFACTURING PROCESS MONITORING: within ACCENT Project (EF FP7 ) and EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing and Industrial Sustainability. Use of force, acoustic emissions, vibration, power and optical sensors for machining process monitoring and control, material characterisation, diagnosis, fault detection and resource efficiency. ADVANCED DATA PROCESSING: sensor signal and image processing techniques applied to diverse manufacturing processes. Computation techniques e.g. statistical analysis, PCA, data fitting and in general, strong programming skills to accommodate a very large variety of data types generated from diverse sources. INTELLIGENT DECISION MAKING: Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, Ant Colony Optimisation, Clustering and Fuzzy Classification for various manufacturing scopes e.g. machining monitoring and control, resource efficiency, energy minimisation and recovery. CAD & CAM: 3D modelling for product parts, fixtures and tools, computer assisted manufacturing for machining process optimisation. ROBOTICS: basic background mainly focussed on non-destructive tests, abrasive machining processes and product disassembly. Involvement in the successful proposals for EPSRC Energy Resilient Manufacturing call 2014 and Innovate UK Technology Inspired innovation Call: preparation of relevant documents (case for support, pathways to impact, justification of resources and risk assessment) and administration tasks. INDUSTRIAL PARTNERSHIP: GE Avio Aero, GKN Aerospace, Unilever R&D and Martec of Whitwell - successful results in terms of research activities, dissemination and industrial partner benefits. Involvement in Sustainable Energy Systems and Sustainable Business Management modules. Design for Disassembly laboratory supervision. One-to-one student project support for Master’s Degree, PhD, and temporary students.
