ABOUT ALESSANDRO PETRARO

Graduated with honors in Computer Science Engineering, I started as a JavaScript Full Stack Developer in Cubbit, a digital startup based in Bologna. While there, I had the chance to learn the ropes of building systems from scratch, using Docker containers and REST APIs to create microservices.My journey then took me to Iconsulting, where I deepened my understanding of data warehouse architectures. As a Full Stack Engineer, I got my hands dirty with various languages like Node with Typescript, React Native, Swift, Scala, Python, and C#. It was a valuable experience that exposed me to the diverse world of application development.Fueled by a curiosity about distributed networks and cloud storage, I circled back to Cubbit. Here, I had the opportunity to explore P2P networks and cryptography, working on microservices within a mono-repository using tools like Lerna and Tilt. At Cubbit I faced many challenges, from securing a WRTC channel using DH Key Exchange to writing the engine for the files selective sync.Building upon this experience, I joined Labster as a Senior Full Stack Engineer, later evolving into a Tech Lead. Responsibilities included ensuring the team adhered to code best practices, scoping new functionalities, and mentoring team members.Following this impactful chapter at Labster, I took a career break to immerse myself in new technologies, focusing on Golang, event-driven architectures, and observability. Right now I am a Senior Software Engineer at SumUp, where I try to bring this enriched perspective and hands-on experience to my current role.In my downtime now, I keep on studying Golang and exploring event-driven architecture patterns, as I believe continuous learning is key in this ever-evolving field.
