ABOUT ALESSANDRO CELLERINO

The main focus of my research is the biological mechanism of aging using primarily as animal model the turquoise killifish (see picture above), a very short-lived fish that I introduced to the scientific community in 2003. I was trained as a Neuroscientist and the brain remains an important object of my investigation. Evolution of aging and lifespan and interspecific comparisons are another important focus. In my group we combine experimental methods such as neuroanatomy, interventions and transgenesis with bioinformatics, data analysis and artificial intelligence. I teach Neurogenomics and Biology of Aging and I enjoy science writing, science dissemination and particularly enjoy mentoring brilliant young scientist.
