As entertainment is a conjunction of culture, society and business, the relationship with the law creates an exciting and contemporary issue. Until few years ago, Hollywood ruled the entertainment world. Nowadays while United States is struggling to maintain its primate as the most important producer of entertainment products, facing some important economic and creative challenges, the rest of the world has made important steps in an industry that is deeply affected by technological progress as well as business adaptation. One of the consequences of this trend is that US entertainment industries started more and more to look globally, while, on the other side, since Hollywood still represents the benchmark for the industry, international production companies (mostly independent) appeared in Lalaland to develop new ideas or to remake/refresh their existing IP with the support of local talents and professionals of the sector. For entertainment lawyers this requires not only an understanding on how the business is done elsewhere and try to balance different cultures and diverse applicable laws, but also how laws from different jurisdictions can affect the developments and creation of entertainment projects.Following the essential stages of development of entertainment projects, this course combines academic analysis and commercial practice elements of entertainment law in an international perspective and students will be able to pursue a variety of pertinent specializations in entertainment law due to its diversified character, all of which are supported by concerns about contracts and intellectual property
