ABOUT ALBERTO ALEMANNO

Alberto Alemanno is an academic, author, social innovator and public interest lawyer. He’s Jean Monnet Professor of EU Law at HEC Paris and founder of The Good Lobby, a not-for-profit that inspires, incubates and builds unconventional alliances by connecting citizen-led initiatives with academics, lawyers and other professionals who volunteer their expertise for those causes. Alberto\'s ultimate goal is to equalize access to power by mainstreaming lobbying as a new practice of civic and democratic life. Due to his commitment to bridge the gap between academic research and policy action, Alberto was nominated Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, as well as Ashoka Fellow and Social Innovator Thought Leader by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entreprise. Alberto pioneered innovative forms of civic engagement over the last decade and championed pro bono services. Both his scholarship and public interest work on openness, transparency and civic engagement has considerably shaped EU institutional setting and practice. Alberto is a regular contributor to Le Monde, Politico Europe, and Bloomberg, and his scholarly and public interest work has been featured in The New York Times, The Economist, Science, and the Financial Times. His last book, ‘Lobbying for Change: Find Your Voice to Create a Better Society’ (Iconbooks, 2017). His free-access MOOC Understanding Europe: Why It Matters and What It Can Offer You reached and empowered more than participants across the EU and beyond. The EU Public Interest Clinic, which he set up in Paris, trained hundreds of public interest lawyers and served dozens of NGOs promoting the EU public interest and has now been taken over by Lamin Khadar with NYU Law. He sits on the boards of European Alternatives, Access Info Europe and Diritto di Sapere, as well as the citizens’ campaigning movements We Move, which operates transnationally. Originally from Italy, Alberto is a graduate of Harvard Law School, the College of Europe and holds a PhD in International Law & Economics from Bocconi University.
