In his role as Dean of the Jacobs School of Engineering, Albert P. Pisano is responsible for strategic planning and programmatic development. ABOUT ALBERT AL P. PISANO

Albert (“Al”) P. Pisano is currently Professor and Dean of the School of Engineering at UC San Diego, jointly appointed into the Departments of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, as well as Electrical & Computer Engineering.** A full CV is found below among the Media Files immediately below.** He currently holds the Walter J. Zable Chair of Engineering. Previously, he was a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and a Director of the Berkeley Sensor & Actuator Center at the University of California, Berkeley, with a joint appointment to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2001. A member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, he was elected to Fellow status in 2004. In 2008, he was named among the “100 Notable People” by Medical Devices and Diagnostic Industry (MD & DI) Magazine. Professor Pisano received his B.S.(1976), M.S.(1977) and Ph.D.(1981) degrees from Columbia University in the City of New York in Mechanical Engineering. His research interests and activities at UC San Diego include MEMS for a wide variety of applications, including RF components, power generation, drug delivery, strain sensors, biosensors, micro inertial instruments, disk-drive actuators and nanoimprinted sensors & circuits. Professor Pisano is the co-inventor of more than 35 patents in MEMS and has co-authored more than 390 archival publications. Since 1983 he has graduated over 40 Ph.D. and 70 MS students. He is a founder in eleven start-up companies in the areas of transdermal drug delivery, transvascular drug delivery, sensorized catheters, MEMS manufacturing equipment, MEMS RF devices, MEMS heat management devices and MEMS motion sensors.Specialties: Research and Development of MEMS Sensors and MEMS Technology, expecially 1) MEMS Sensors for Self-Powered, Harsh Environment Sensor Chips and 2) Micro- and Nano-materials Manufacturing
