ABOUT ALBERTO LOPEZ

I build CNS therapeutics from molecular concept to IND submission. Trained as an integrative neuroscientist, I now operate at the intersection of neurobiology, in vivo pharmacology, and regulatory strategy with a goal to drive programs that bridge discovery to clinic. My focus: design and execution of IND-enabling studies that actually move candidates forward from discovery and into the clinic.At Capsida Biotherapeutics, I co-led CNS AAV programs, directing pharmacology and toxicology studies across mouse, primate, and in vitro systems. I authored regulatory documentation, aligned cross-functional teams across discovery, nonclinical, CMC, and translational functions, and built stage-appropriate assays that fed directly into successful IND filings. I also co-led ophthalmologic partnerships from discovery through candidate selection.Before biotech, I spent nearly a decade building a research program that connected gene regulation to behavioral disease models; this work resulted in >25 peer-reviewed publications, multiple federal grants, and new methods that advanced the study of substance use disorder, learning, and memory.I’m driven by one goal: turning deep mechanistic science into regulatory and business momentum.
