About Alberto J. F. Cardelle

I am now in my 30th year of serving in various roles as an academic administrator, faculty member, and researcher. Twenty-one of those years has been at public universities. I am not only familiar with the unique and underappreciated role of public universities, but I am also a passionate advocate for their academic mission, ability to serve as engines of growth, and role as vehicles of social mobility.I am currently in my fifth year as President at SUNY Oneonta, after serving five years as Provost at Fitchburg State University (FSU), a comprehensive public university in a regional urban setting. Before FSU, at East Stroudsburg University I served as Dean of the College of Health Sciences, interim Vice-Provost and Graduate Dean, and department chair. Before entering higher education administration I was a full professor in the Department of Health Studies at East Stroudsburg University (ESU) of Pennsylvania during which I was co-founder and co-director of the Institute for Public Health Research and Innovation.I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Latin American Studies at Tulane University, a Master in Public Health from Boston University, and my Doctoral Degree in international studies with a concentration in comparative health policy from the University of Miami. Before serving as a faculty member I was a Research Associate at the Dante Fascell North-South Center and the Fogarty International Research Center at the University of Miami. I have worked with the World Health Organization, The American Medical Student Association, UNICEF, and Oxfam America.Specialties: Assessment of public health infrastructure, program evaluation focused on policy and system changes and international comparative health policy analysis.
