ABOUT ALBERTO SCIONTI
I am currently a senior research scientist at LINKS Foundation (Leading Innovation & Knowledge for Society) in the Advanced Computing and Electromagnetics (ACE) research unit. Previously, I was senior research at Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (ISMB). My main interests include the design of low-power and HPC systems, Cloud computing infrastructures, and the design of orchestration and automation methods for Cloud environments. Since May 2011, I am active in HiPEAC Network of Excellence. Previously, I was an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Università degli Studi di Siena, where I was involved in the design and simulation of high-performance CMP systems based on the data-flow paradigm (Teraflux & ERA projects). I received my Ph.D degree in April 2011 from Politecnico di Torino. Past experiences include research activities in the Department of Control and Computer Engineering at Politecnico di Torino (methodologies for semiconductor memories testing, application of evolutionary algorithms for designing digital systems), active participation in the ReTrust EU projects (development of a remote code authentication engine based on FPGA card), collaboration with Ansaldo-STS (developing FPGA-based architectures for railway transport systems), and collaboration projects with European institutions such as the TUDelft in Delft (Netherlands) and the UPC in Barcellona (Spain), where I spent over 7 months. I have been teaching assistant for courses at the engineering faculty of the Politecnico di Torino (Digital System Design and Dependability, Recupero Elementi di Informatica). I am co-author of more than 35 publications. Skills: Programming with several languages (C/C++, OpenCL, Python, Go, CUDA, Assembler x86), using database and SQL, hardware design and programming (HDL tools), advanced computer architectures, many-core and reconfigurable architectures. Also, extended knowledge of ML/DL techniques and Evolutionary Algorithms techniques.
