ABOUT ALBERTO BOLOGNA

ARCHITECTURE and CONSTRUCTION are the key words that sum up the topics related to my field of interest. The roots of my approach to academic research lie in the context of a design culture based on construction (Baukultur) and are consequences of my professional path as an architect, researcher and professor, carried out in several Italian universities, as well as abroad (USA, Switzerland, China). My methodologies of study are based, therefore, on transdisciplinary contaminations coming mainly from construction history and structural morphology. There are two research lines in which I focus my work: one investigates the reasons for architectural and structural form from its constructive instances (with a specific expertise in the use of concrete), the other investigates the strategies of urban regeneration through ‘building upon building’ within the historical city.
