Do you miss working? “A bit more than two years into early retirement, I’ve been asked this question countless times. In that period, my response shifted from “not at all” to “at times” to emphatically “yes.” Another question was: “What do you miss about work?” What I missed and what ultimately drew me back was the intellectual stimulation, solving complex problems alongside great people, and the satisfaction that accompanies corporate reputation work. So, when the opportunity to partner with Richard Martin, a great friend, former Visa colleague and an absolutely brilliant strategic storyteller arose, I could not resist. Hence, the Four C Group was formed.The prospect of bringing my communications and reputation expertise to bear in helping companies tackle business challenges and seize opportunities is energizing. Especially now, as the lines between PR and marketing blur and the demand for accountability and transparency grows. These pressures are familiar. At Visa, I led a range of functions including corporate reputation, public relations, corporate communications, CSR and employee communications. I contributed to the company’s most significant milestones: CEO transitions, mergers and corporate initiatives including Visa Inc.’s IPO. Hopefully the skills honed during my career will help make me an objective, empathetic and effective counselor. The apex of my career involved working with Richard to establish Visa’s first in-house content creation function and the launch of its first multi-national reputation storytelling platform. Our work culminated with Visa’s reputation ranking among the world’s top 25 and Visa being featured in Jim Stengel’s book, Grow, as a Stengel 50 company.
