ABOUT ALBERT MVULA

I am a senior academic leader, researcher, and governance specialist with over a decade of experience advancing climate‑smart agriculture, natural resources management, and higher‑education transformation across Malawi, the UK, and Uganda. My work sits at the intersection of research, policy, and institutional development, with a strong commitment to building resilient communities and strengthening research ecosystems in Sub‑Saharan Africa. As Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of Blantyre Synod, I lead academic strategy, research development, curriculum innovation, and institutional quality assurance. I have been instrumental in establishing the university’s first research governance architecture, including the Research & Consultancy Policy, the Research Development & Promotion Strategy, and the Research & Publications Committee. My leadership is focused on transitioning the Faculty into a modern, research‑intensive centre of excellence through curriculum diversification, staff development, and the expansion of international research partnerships. My research career spans agroecology, agroforestry adoption, conservation agriculture, and social‑ecological systems. I have led and co‑led major research initiatives, including a UKRI‑funded work package at the University of Aberdeen, where I coordinated national stakeholder engagements, developed decision‑support tools for farmers, and produced high‑impact publications and policy briefs. My work has contributed to Scotland’s climate and land‑use policy discussions and continues to inform sustainable agriculture strategies in Malawi.Across my roles as Dean, Research Fellow, Lecturer, Project Coordinator, and Consultant, I have consistently championed evidence‑based decision‑making, participatory research, and capacity building. I am passionate about strengthening academic cultures, supporting early‑career researchers, and designing systems that enable universities and communities to thrive in the face of environmental and socio‑economic challenges.
