About Alastair Townsend
I have over 15 years of professional experience across architecture and real estate development. I\'ve overseen office, multifamily, and industrial development projects across the US. Controlling entitlement and construction risk on behalf of our institutional investors by managing complex budgets, underwriting new deals, monitoring construction and design teams, and overseeing capital funding.Previously, as an architect I founded BAKOKO, an practice in Tokyo. We served foreign clients seeking a bilingual team who could help build cutting-edge architecture in Japan. Upon returning to the US in 2015, I headed back to school and earned a masters degree in real estate from the University of Washington.I’ve been interviewed about architecture, Japan, and economics by the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, the Guardian, CNN, and NPR, as well as in numerous journals in print and online. Locally, I have served as the Development Representative on the City of Seattle’s East Design Review Board. I also actively participate in the Urban Land Institute’s Northwest district council where I am the Chair for Mission Advancement. I play squash at the Seattle Athletic Club and enjoy exploring the region by bicycle.
