Managing the Data Remediation Programme with an annual budget of ~£3.5m and a team of 16 full-time resources, the programme discovered data stores, ringfenced and protected data required for legal matters and engagement contracts and removed that which was not required to better meet regulatory requirements. There were 6 workstreams: Applications; Outlook Retention; Journal Cloud Migration and Remediation; Microsoft 365 (focussed on Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive); Network Attached Storage; plus, a pilot for a strategic eDiscovery tool for the largest data platforms which can utilise AI and Machine Learning to assist with eDiscovery and legal hold activities.This was a demanding role in a regulated environment, requiring rigorous process and governance and senior stakeholder management. Highlights during my tenure include: the migration of 2.7bn messages to the cloud; deletion of over 450m emails through the implementation of Outlook retention policies; deletion of 1.5bn (c. 150TB) legacy emails from the journals (the largest deletion of production data ever undertaken in KPMG UK); deletion of 1.5PB of data as part of the deletion of legacy journal copies; deletion of 84m+ files from the NAS.
