ABOUT ALAN BRYCE

Supporting Human Resource and Global Mobility Professionals To Relocate Their Employees // Providing Innovative Solutions and “Raving Fan” Service for 46 Years. Relocation can take up less than 5% of your workload, but 100% of your energy when problems occur. You want your suppliers to care for your employees the same way you do, to address the critical issues that arise during the relocation process. So, how to choose the right suppliers? The people you choose should reflect the same values and culture as your company - and demonstrate that congruence in every interaction with your valuable relocating employees. Easy enough to say, but how on earth do you know? First, do you have a relocation policy? This is the first step to success, as it defines what is (and what is NOT) covered in a clear and defined manner for the employee. It also avoids “relocation by negotiation,” whereby the best negotiators and most persistent employees get the most relocation benefits. It helps dial down the “water-cooler talk” and the possible envies and jealousies that might ensue. It also saves you a lot of time and energy. Most companies have a tiered relocation policy based on levels within the organization. For example, there can be a senior executive policy, an upper manager policy, a mid-level manager policy, and a lower level or new hire, all with different relocation benefits and allowances. Getting clear on these differences will save a lot of headaches later on.Second, are you using a relocation service provider? It is important to ensure your organization has a supplier that fits your needs. Typically, large relocation companies work best for organizations that relocate large numbers of employees regularly, smaller relocation companies work better for smaller organizations with more custom concierge service. If you’ve got questions in any area of your current relocation policy or plans, let’s have a brief chat to see if I can be of assistance. Whether or not we decide to do business together, I am confident that our call will give you insights and information to make better decisions for the people who trust you.
