Alana S. James is a graduating senior at the illustrious Spelman College, where she is earning her degree in Economics. With a passion for merging finance, marketing, and sales, Alana brings an interdisciplinary approach to solving complex business challenges and driving strategic growth. After attending courses throughout her freshman year, Alana holds a certification in MBA Readiness and Business Analytics from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management and has gained hands-on experience across diverse industries. As one of only 14 HBCU students selected for Coca-Cola’s prestigious Sales and Marketing Externship, Alana worked on a strategic business case to launch innovative products and enhance site engagement. At Vanguard, she served as a Sales Intern, rotating through three key divisions and earning top honors in both final capstone presentations—securing 1st place with her team in the Institutional Investments division and 3rd place individually in the Financial Advisor Services track, while also developing and buildiung her undrstanding of financial products and sales. Her marketing externship with Luminis Health provided her with valuable exposure to healthcare communications, sharpening her ability to tailor messaging across sectors. On campus, Alana has taken on several impactful leadership roles. She currently serves as the Membership Chair for the Future Business Leaders of Spelman (FBLS) and previously led service initiatives as Community Service Chair. As a Student Resource Advocate committed to uplifting underserved students, she founded STARS, or Striving To Achieve Remarkable Success, where she connects middle and high school students to college mentors to explore career paths and prepare for higher education. Alana’s talent for collaboration and innovation was recognized at the Deloitte Emerging Leaders Conference, where she earned one of three first-place awards in a highly competitive case competition among interns and incoming analysts. Academically, she is a consistent Dean’s List and Academic Honor Roll student, known for her critical thinking, strong communication skills, and growth mindset.
